The other day I received a beautiful email! It was from Cherie. She wanted to share with me some of the designs she made with a little help from my Photoshop brushes. And I always love to receive emails like that!
So, naturally I checked it and .. wow! These were good! Did not think twice. I kindly asked Cheri if it would be ok if I made a little blog post about her work and, as you can see, she agreed!

As a matter of fact, all Photoshop brushes I ever made (or will ever make) are (and will remain) compatible with:
1. Photoshop 7.0
2. Photoshop CS
3. Photoshop CS2
4. Photoshop CS3
5. Photoshop CS4
6. Photoshop CS5 (and future versions, I test them on each new version)
7. Photoshop Elements 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
8. GIMP
10. With a little help from abrViewer (freeware application) you can use my Photoshop brushes in pretty much any software that works with .png files.
Also, all of them can be used in your commercial projects, as long as they are used to decorate your designs and not re-sold in their original shape. They are all hiQuality brushes that can freely be used for print and not just web / video projects.

A few words about the new Photography technique called TtV
We will NOT talk about the royal wedding (sorry, no royal weddings here)
Yes, it’s Earth Day! And this year we are celebrating it by planting and growing our own vegetables in our own garden. The permaculture way! (read all about permaculture on wikipedia)
Why? Well, everyone knows that food prices are going up. No matter where you live – the food is getting more and more expensive every day. In addition, growing food in the old fashioned, industrial way, is not the way to the healthy snack. Pesticides and chemical fertilizers are heavily used in conventional industrial food production, so that is one more reason to start growing your own food if you have a garden. Even if you don’t have your own garden, there are ways to grow your own food (see: Organopónicos )
So, we decided to grow our own food without any chemicals in the process. No. We are going the permaculture, Ruth Stout “no-work”, “no-dig” gardening way :) All about Ruth Stout you can view in this nice little video here
Now, I assume you were a bit surprised to read about the home food production on graphics-illustrations.com site, but it’s just that I thought it’s important. That’s it.
Now, the topic. Free quick page :)
You can see what the quick page looks like on the header image. Just add your own photos and that’s it. Dimensions are 12×12 inches @300 dpi and it is a PSD (Photoshop layered file). You can download it here. It’s about 40MB, so please be patient while downloading. On the other hand, you will get a high quality printout out if it.
And now about this totally cool photographic technique called TtV.
Look at the images below. To get this effect there was no Photoshopping whatsoever. These photos are just made with the TtV technique – Through the Viewfinder. Basically I pointed a 60 years old 6×6 (medium format) analog camera at the objects I was photographing, and then, with my Canon 5D I took the shoot of this old cameras viewfinder.
(Sadly, I didn’t use the paper shade as it is shown on the link above, but, in future, I will. It’s really hard to shoot without the shade.)
And I just love the retro look of these photos. I hope you like them too :)

Last few weeks were pretty stressful for me.
That’s why you did not hear from me for a while. I didn’t want to write about these, not so good, things that were going on in my life. Let’s just say that things are back to normal, more or less, for the time being at least.
OK. Now, let’s get to fun stuff!
Today is the last day of March (at least for those of you who are reading this on 31st of March), and this time I prepared a free desktop April 2011 Calendar wallpaper. Isn’t it odd? This time, for a change, I prepared a Calendar wallpaper in time!!! :)

Here goes another Photoshop tutorial.
Mirta’s birthday was few days ago, so I prepared a funny collage birthday card for her. And, because she likes animals, (especially cats) I decided to add photo of Mr. Alphons (my trusty cat) to her birthday card.
Mirta was also my model back in times when I had my own photo studio (that’s why I do so many Photoshop brushes for Photographers) I took this photo of her three years ago.
In this example I used many of my brushes: free and premium versions. Free Photoshop brushes can be found at GreenBulbGang.Com and premium versions are available for purchase in my Graphics-Illustrations.Com Shop! Backgrounds are also available in the shop.
Ok. So here are the ingredients for this recipe: :)
And here is what we will have by the end of our tutorial:
OK, guys! Roll-up your sleeves because here we go! Here is how I made this card:
0. I collected all ingredients :) (images and graphics which are to be included to design). I prepared some Photoshop brushes, backgrounds and photos to get ready to roll, started a new file (ours was 2400px x 2400px) at some printing resolution, say, 300dpi.
1. So, as a first step. I imported photo of Peacco (Meacco Peacco a.k.a. Mr. Alphons), this photo can be a photo of your friend, family, pet or anyone else … now select “channels”.
2. Select the channel with the highest contrast, in my case that was Red one. Copy that channel.
3. Use Level Adjustment in order to get even more contrast channel – remember: you should work on copied Red channel!
4. Now use the Burn tool to darken the photo (Mr. Alphons in this case)
5. Using the Dodge tool clear all the grays and blacks around the photo (Mr. Alphons in this case)
The image should be clear now.
6. Now draw a selection around with the using path pen tool, be precise (more than I was)
and go to the Paths Menu (the image looks darker now because you copied the Red channel, remember? :))
7. In the Paths Menu, choose “Make a selection” option in order to create selection from Path
8. Now click again on Channels – and then on your copied channel. In my case that’s the red channel copy.
9. Fill the selection with Black color and correct the imperfections by using simple brush and black color around the silhouette.
10. Now click on Load channel as selection icon below.
11. Go back to the Layers. (You can copy your image layer if you want to – I did.) Add a Layer Mask
12. And the selection will be automatically “erased”.
13. While you are using select tool, click to open a menu and select “Refine Edge”
14. Now soften an edges a little bit
15. Now open a background image and simply drag a layer to the background image.
16. Using this technique cut another photo and drag the layer over the background.
17. now, add a layer mask and with simple brush strokes (Photoshop brushes set available here) create some imperfections over the image.
18. Repeat this on another photo too
19. Add a layer above the background and add some “Hearts” Photoshop brushes in white color.
20. Blur the hearts a little
21. Add another layer and add new Photoshop brushes, in this case I used ones from the set I created for Smashing Magazine, you can download them here
22. I added another background layer simply with dragging an layer above the background layer
23. I changed the layer mode to “Hard Light”
24. Then I added another layer and applied Dotted Arrows, Photoshop brushes set available here
25. Again, just like in 17. and 18., add a layer mask and using a simple brush strokes (Photoshop brushes set available here) add a “grunge” style to the design
26. Repeat the same as in 25.
27. Add another layer, and use new brushes (I used “Stickers” Photoshop brushes set available here)
28. Add another layer below the “sticker” you just added and draw a circle 
using elliptical selection, fill in the circle with the color of your choice, and change the layer mode. I changed it into “Color Dodge”.
29. Add more brushes from “Sticker” set on the same layer
30. Add another layer and again, add new brush – this time “Kisses” Photoshop brushes set available here
31. You can add more layers and more brushes – it is up to you. I’ve added “Doodle Birdies” Photoshop brushes set available here and “Talk Bubbles” Photoshop brushes set available here…
31. … and “Film Negatives” and “Doodle 2″ Photoshop brushes sets. You can add layer masks on every layer, and give them a “grunge” look with the Simple Brush Strokes Photoshop brushes sets.
32. In case you were wondering, here is what the graphic looks like at 100% zoom.

Gang, as you know, Photoshop brushes can be used in a huge variety of ways. They are mostly used by
- graphic designers,
- scrap books enthusiasts and professionals alike,
- photographers for their photo books …
- even fashion and textile designers contacted me to tell me how much they appreciated my brushes in their works
- not to mention how we even decorated a Mercedes Smart car once
But, I don’t think I ever demonstrated how Photoshop brushes can be used to make cool 3D graphics.

Valentine’s day is here. And it’s highly commercialized. Here is the alternative approach. I hope you will like it. Actually, I believe that many of you think this way too.
The feeling/emotion of being in love (not loving – being in love, having a “crush” on someone) is the most precious feeling we can experience in our live time, here on earth (I don’t buy the story that everything ends once we seize to breed, that’s why I say “life – here on earth” there are other “modes” of being alive out there.).
Those of you who experienced the feeling of “being in love” will certainly agree with me. It’s close to “madness” but in a good, positive way. It is also the “everything makes sense now” feeling. Also, it is a total absence of worrying or caring about the stuff we worry or care about when our mindset is in “normal” state.
All that matters, in the time of being in love, is to be in the company of someone we’re in love with. As much as possible. That’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter where, when or what you do. It is a fuzzy, warm feeling in the stomach and it feels better than any other drug that human or nature came up with. (Not that I tried all the drugs in the world or something, but once you know what it feels to be in love, you don’t go after drugs, because you know nothing came close to this.)
But, of course, we live in a “consumer” society and we need to spend in order to make the economy grow isn’t it? Well, I don’t “buy” this. We are led to believe that the best way of showing love is to BUY something for them. BUY a present. SPEND money. These are the messages we are all bombarded with and exposed to 24 hours a day (Ok. we still have the time when we sleep to be on our own, but I wouldn’t count that they won’t find I way to get to us there too).
Well, my message is: DON’T BUY anything for the one you love. DON’T! You just can’t buy love. If you could, it would be on the supermarket shelves already and it would probably be heavily discounted today.
Here the approach I prefer. Of course, we want to give something to the ones you love. That’s perfectly normal. Expressing love is perfectly normal, cool and ok. Now, what is the only asset we all have, but are limited with? And I mean ALL of us who experience life here and now on this planet? It’s the time. So, for this valentine’s day, take the time, and MAKE something for the one you love.
I create Photoshop brushes and the best way I can contribute is to give them to you so you use them and make something. Make a Valentine’s card. Make a poem, decorate it with Photoshop brushes and print it out. Make an envelope (here is how ->). Take the time to make it look good. It will make both of you so much more happy then just getting a perfume or some hi-tech gadget from the store.
I know what you’re thinking now “You’re saying don’t buy stuff, buy my brushes.” Wrong! I am offering loads of free Photoshop brushes on GreenBulbGang.Com site.

Of course, this little application is nowhere near the Photoshop but it still allows you to:
- Rotate the brushes: Ctrl (on Mac Cmd) + Left and Right Arrow Keys

- Color it (solid colors only)

Don’t know about you but I like to recycle. I strongly believe that we could recycle at least 80% of the stuff instead of throwing them away every day.
So, here’s a little preview what I’ve done with, for instance, old glass jars, mostly from my favorite products by Saclà Italia :)
The image below shows, for instance, glass jars filled with soil and plants. I got my hubby to drill in some holes and put them on the wall. They are hanging on the driftwood I collect (what? you don’t collect driftwood? of course you do! everyone does that …) every spring. So, finally, here is what my bathroom wall looks like today, everything recycled:

Here’s what the wall in my working room looks like:
As you can see, I am using glass jars as simple candle holders too… I color them, decorate them with leaves or stripes… or whatever I can recycle. Finally, I print out a paper candle shades and put them around the jars:
As you probably guessed, to create candle shades, I use my Photoshop brushes.
So, if you like these candle shades, this is the place to get them!
I hope you will maybe find some of these ideas inspirational and maybe you will find some stuff at home that doesn’t need to be thrown away but can be used to create a decoration or something useful for your household.

New Year celebration – gone.
Warm, sunny Summer days are distant future.
So, what do we do?
Well, I don’t know about you but I do two things:
- Writing
- Making graphics
And I recommend it!
Especially the part two – making graphics. It worked for me.
The image above was created with our trustworthy Simple Flash On-Line Designer (wordings are added in Photoshop).
To make this graphic I used:
1. Mini set: Happy Circled Wordart Photoshop brushes (7+7) and 7 PNG files
2. Wedding Photo Frames (squares) Photoshop brushes set (25+25+25) + 25 PNGs
3. Month by month Photo Masks Photoshop brushes set (36) + 36 PNGs
4. Christmas II Photoshop Brushes (20+20+20) + 20 PNGs – 2010. Edition
5. Horizontal Dividers Photoshop Brushes (25+25+25) + 25 PNGs
So, I invite you to fight bad mood by designing a graphic too, if you are not in mood for Photoshop or some other complicated software, go ahead and use our Simple Flash On-Line Designer.

I just can not find the words to tell you how much I appreciate your feedback on our latest GBG eZine.
I am receiving so many “Thank you” emails from you guys, I’m overwhelmed with emotions!
This is one more proof how giving is receiving! That’s something my parents tried to teach me when I was still a kid but I was to young to understand.
Now I understand.
By giving you these presents in my latest eZine, I received so many positive emotions and such a nice feedback from you guys … it is something one can not measure in dollars or anything material.
So, I owe you A BIG THANK YOU!
