Heart I was checking that stats of my blog the other day when I realized that more than 3000 visitors are coming to this site every day. Now, how cool is that? That’s, like, 30 000 in 10 days! I will not calculate more.

Also, many of you write about great stuff you did with my brushes and I’m really happy for all of you.

So, I was thinking, why don’t I make a post about your work. It would, definitely, help you get visibility and for me, it would be pleasure to help you promote your work!

So, if you used my Photoshop brushes, or Vectors or any other product from my Graphics-Illustrations.Com Shop let me know. I’ll check it out and feature your work on my blog. For free, of course :)

Peace, love and have fun creating!

“A free gift”? What kind of phrase is that?

I was browsing the net, minding my own business the other day, when I ran into one more commercial that uses the stupidest phrase ever used in marketing copy: “Free gift inside!“. Again and again and again they insult us consumers with this nonsense phrase! There are variations – as you know. Sometimes it’s “We’ll send you a free gift” of “Free bonus!“.

The word bonus implies that it’s free otherwise it would not be a bonus. It would be just a normal payable product or service. Gee!

Free gift. Hey! C’mon!? What’s this? Are we, consumers, so stupid? Are marketers trying to convince us that gifts should usually be payed for? Like: “Yo, dad, c’mon buy me a gift for birthday, I’ll pay you for that.” How silly is that???

But, no! Marketing copywriters are constantly emphasizing the “Free gift inside!” phrase. Wow! A gift? And it’s free??? Hey!

Can’t they just say: “Buy this and we’ll send you a gift.” Why to they need to push the “free” word, like, just about everywhere??? Soon, in restaurants we’ll hear: “Order a soup and we’ll rent you a spoon and the plate – for free!” Just for the sake of pushing the word “free” in the sentence.

It’s just so annoying. I had to share it with you. And I’ll make a promise. I will never never offer a “free gift” when you buy Photoshop brushes or vectors, or scrapbook kits from me. I will present you with a gift. Normal gift. We all know what the word “gift” means. I don’t know about you, but I hate the BS.

P.S.
Gift – something given voluntarily without payment in return (dictionary.reference.com).

P.P.S.
Ha! You just thought there will be no gift for you. Haven’t you?

What Really Matters?

It’s hard to say it in words. So, I said it with this little graphic. I wanted to express my understaning of what really matters. Through symbols, words, shapes and colors. Probably we should turn this blog into a visual one. Less words and more images. Or maybe those two forfill each other? Anyway, I hope you like it. I did it with Hearts Photoshop Brushes Set.

Domain name and web server change

Today’s news are: I bought the domain name: graphics-illustrations.com and I hosted it at Siteground.com (all of my domains are hosted there).

Now I’m thinking about possible problems before my DNS is activated:

  • what’s going to happen’ to all the links to specific pages from my blogs and other web sites?
  • how do I retain my visitors?
  • should I consider running my blog on blogger parralel to my new site at the same time for a while?
  • do I have to change my blog design and improve it?

I really don’t know what will happen after I transfer my blog to new domain… and I’m kinda’ afraid of the whole procedure!

When I started this blog I didn’t dream that I will have 2000+ visitors daily after only 5 months… and I didn’t consider any other domain name or web hosting but this one at blogger.com…

In the meantime take a look at bsilvia.com and see what’s happening!

How to draw swirls illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, Part Two

I assume that you worked on your swirls creation technique with a little help of my previous tutorial (How to draw swirls illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, Part One).

Now, let’s make a little case study. To make a Swirl Illustrations that looks like the one in the header of graphics-illustrations blog, we need:

Determine the size and shape of the blank space. We will now use simple quadrant shape.

Create a new layer bellow. Use the simple artist brush symbol below the layer that contains the quadrant to create an “outline”

Again, create a new layer. Now add some ink splatters around, on that layer.

Add some swirls on the layer above the layer that contains ink splatters (but bellow the layer with the shape and layer with it’s outline)

Add some more swirls, and also add some swirls on the new layer on the top.

In the end, add some stars… and that’s it.

If you’re wondering how to colorize the symbols or even change their shapes: select all symbols and use the “Break Link to Symbol” – now you can manipulate shapes and colors until the dawn breaks or until you’re happy with the results – whatever comes first

Free Download: Adobe Illustrator classic artist brushes and symbols

Hello! :)

For last two days I’ve been struggling to install two new blogs of mine into their web server homes (bsilvia.com and blogffiliate.com). Until now it was never too hard for me to select a web design. Until now. Dark one? Or light? Which font? Arial, Trebuchet or Tahoma? Fixed width or not? More or less colorful?…. And so on…

Today I have prepared another symbols set before we start with How to draw swirls illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, Part Two. This set has been taken out from the classic brush stroke and classical ink on paper. It was then scanned and edited in Adobe Illustrator.

This set can be downloaded like the classic artist brush set for Adobe Illustrator and/or classic artist brush symbols set for Adobe Illustrator.

Tutorial: Vectorizing an image

… in Illustrator.
Step 1
First, place a high-contrasted image (high-key image, in this case my model Iva) into Illustrator work area.

Step 1

Step 2
There is a bunch of tracing software and plug-ins out there, but for this example I decided to do tracing manually with pencil tool.

Step

Step 3
Use your imagination, draw something that you imagine, not just what you see.

Step 3

Step 4
In order to get a right side of the face copy+paste left half, mirror and join to get the full picture, and then draw an oval shape around.

Step 4

Step 5
Make some basic elements like simple flowers, leaves, circles and stains.

Step 5

Step 6
On the other hand, if you need this illustration for any purposes and don’t want to bother going through all this then get it for 1$ at Shutterstock.
