Using Photoshop brushes in Movie DVD Cover Design

Yep. The times are tough. But, even in toughest times, the darkest hours in human history, people were still creating, making art. So, when a friend of mine approached me and asked for help in creating design of the DVD cover for their latest non-profit movie, I was more than happy to help.

My friend’s cousin is film director… she directs short movies without dialogues. Her last movie is named “Wolfgirl”… it speaks about human race, nature, animals and their relation-ship.

So, I was really happy to make a cover design for her movie:

This is the back side of the disc, here is what it says:

When the girl meets the wolf in the woods, a whole new universe is created where everything becomes possible.
Short movie without dialogue. Only a bit of howling and maybe roar or two :)

Of course, I put my brushes where my mouth, sorry, design is :)

I will make sure to provide a link to this movie as soon as it becomes available on line. I’ve seen it (of course) and I liked it a lot. It is a “zero budget, lot of time” movie with two characters, little girl and a dog. It was shot with Canon 5D Mark II camera and I just loved it. Now it will be sent to different competitions for this kind of movies and I wish it very best!

Tutorial: Loading Vectors into Photoshop

It happens, from time to time. People ask me: “Why would I buy vector graphics instead of Photoshop brushes. I mean brushes are cheaper”. Legitimate question.

Sometimes, people also ask me: “How can I use vectors that you sell in Photoshop?”

Well, that ‘s alsol a legitimate question. And I am going to provide some answers. Here. And now.

For the first one, regarding the comparison between Photoshop brushes and vectors, vectors have one huge advantage: You can resize them as much as you want and you will not lose a bit of the quality. Not a single bit. So, for instance, say you just like one part of the vector shape and you’d like to include that part into your design. And, furthermore you’d like that part to be particualrly big. And, in addition, you want to make your design print ready (say: at 300dpi). Now, that’s something. And, if you know a bit about Illustrator, you’d like to modify this part of the shape … now, all this is not a problem when you have vectors. Whether it be eps or ai file, both of them can be imported into Photoshop, in any size of the document, at any resolution, these shapes can be resized as much as you want and twist them, and bend them and squeeze them, stretch … put them in the 3D perspective, you name it. It is all possible with vectors.

And finally, you can easily make Photoshop brushes with vectors.

Now, I hope this answers the question of advantages of vectors.

Now, why would I want to get Photoshop brush in this case? – I hear you say.

Well, there are two main reasons:

Price – Photoshop brushes are cheaper
Time – when you are in hurry, it is much faster to just load the brush and place it wherever you want and if you buy my brushes, the size will not be an issue to as I tend to provide two different sizes to all my PREMIUM brushes, so that you don’t have to overstretch them and so that the quality is preserved despite the resizing.

Ok. Now, for the second question: How do I load and use vector shapes in Photoshop?

As they say, a picture speaks a hundreds words, so I made a gazillion pictures and placed them into a sequence and what did I get? You guessed - a video. A video that shows how to load and use vector shapes/files in Photoshop.

Making Cool 3D Graphics With Photoshop brushes

Gang, as you know, Photoshop brushes can be used in a huge variety of ways. They are mostly used by

graphic designers,
scrap books enthusiasts and professionals alike,
photographers for their photo books …
even fashion and textile designers contacted me to tell me how much they appreciated my brushes in their works
not to mention how we even decorated a Mercedes Smart car once

But, I don’t think I ever demonstrated how Photoshop brushes can be used to make cool 3D graphics.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Gang!

Mr. Alphons (on the image below) and me wish you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day! Green, cheerful holiday that celebrates not just St. Patrick but it also a spring time that is coming!

Although St. Patrick’s Day originally started in Ireland as a religious holiday, a long time ago at the beginning of the 7th century, gradually it became a secular celebration celebrated all around the world, all the way to South Korea :) More about St. Patrick’s Day ->

And that’s no wonder, main concept of this celebration is: to be cheerful, have a beer with your friends, sing and dance.

Although, today did not start very well for me. Mr. Alphons, our little kitten tried to imitate Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible and fell of the balcony (2nd floor) while doing it :(

Still, we might say that today is a very happy day, as Mr. Alphons actually got lucky! We took him to the vet, we did full examination, including the X-Rays, blood test, etc … and the final verdict is – Mr. Alphons is fine!

He has a hell of the reason to celebrate St. Patty’s day!

Still, I hope he will not try to re-do the stunt. Or was just his way to express his happiness about the spring that’s coming :) ?

Anyways, just look at him with the clover in his teeth. A true man cat ;) Resembles Humphrey Bogart from Casablanca a bit, innit?

The time has come, March edition of GBG eZine is on it’s way

I really had some rough time last few months. It was a long, cold winter. After years of living in a rented apartments we finally managed to buy (with a little help from the bank of course) an old house that didn’t seem to be in bad condition – at that time.

We were so wrong! After we started renovating it turned out that nearly everything needs to be renovated. It turned out to be a real money-eater so we nearly ended up on the edge of bankruptcy. We’ve been through some really stressful moments, days, nights… I tell ‘ya.

But that’s a whole different story of which I might write a book one day when all these events becomes distant past tense and I hope this day will come soon :)

Still, is there there anything that can stop me from making new free stuff for my dear blog visitors and my GBG members?

Photoshop brushes and how we used them in 2009

Here is a retrospective of what we’ve done in 2009. I had no IDEA that I made so MANY different examples on how to use Photoshop brushes during 2009! There was also a bunch of new Photoshop brushes and loads of fun!

So, without further ado, here is a small retrospective and a bunch of ideas on the topic! I hope you will like it!

1. Google cheque redesign

For these designs (4 different designs, one for every season :)) I used Floral Shapes Photoshop Brushes set (37) and Floral DUO Photoshop Brushes set (62), both of them are available in my Graphics-Illustrations.Com Shop.
