Now, that was supposed to be a catchy headline. I hope it was catchy enough to get you start reading this. If you are a beginner willing to learn about Adobe Illustrator, this short video might be kinda revealing for you.
So, as always in my video tutorials, make sure your Adobe Illustrator is open and your mouse is always close to “Pause” button on the video as you’ll have to press “Pause” a lot and do what I do on your screen simultaneously.
Ok. I this is probably the fastest possible way to make a flower in Illustrator enthusiasts. So, 2 minutes and 36 seconds tutorial for a flower is, IMHO – not bad.
Captions on the bottom of the video should give you all additional info on what’s being done.
Use shortcuts whenever it is possible! This is very important! It will speed you up tremendously. Keep your left hand fingers on:
- “V“, Selection tool, important when selecting objects for rotation and transformations and for moving objects
- “A“, Direct Selection tool, important for manipulation with points (in this tutorial to join endpoints and create a petal shape)
- “Alt (PC)”/”Option (Mac)” important when duplicating objects (in this tutorial when duplicating and rotating at the same time)
So, if you try and do your best to use the shortcuts and learn to work using shortcuts whenever it is possible it will really make your work in Illustrator (and any other software) much much faster and easier.
OK. Let’s get to work now. As I said, make sure your mouse always close to “Pause” button as you will need to Pause a lot.

I assume that you worked on your swirls creation technique with a little help of my previous tutorial (How to draw swirls illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, Part One).
Now, let’s make a little case study. To make a Swirl Illustrations that looks like the one in the header of graphics-illustrations blog, we need:
- Swirls symbols set, Adobe Illustrator
- Ink Splatter symobls set, Adobe Illustrator
- Classic artist brush set or Classic Artist brush symbols set
- Adobe Illustrator Floral Brushes set
Determine the size and shape of the blank space. We will now use simple quadrant shape.
Create a new layer bellow. Use the simple artist brush symbol below the layer that contains the quadrant to create an “outline”
Again, create a new layer. Now add some ink splatters around, on that layer.
Add some swirls on the layer above the layer that contains ink splatters (but bellow the layer with the shape and layer with it’s outline)
Add some more swirls, and also add some swirls on the new layer on the top.
In the end, add some stars… and that’s it.

If you’re wondering how to colorize the symbols or even change their shapes: select all symbols and use the “Break Link to Symbol” – now you can manipulate shapes and colors until the dawn breaks or until you’re happy with the results – whatever comes first

Hello! :)
For last two days I’ve been struggling to install two new blogs of mine into their web server homes (bsilvia.com and blogffiliate.com). Until now it was never too hard for me to select a web design. Until now. Dark one? Or light? Which font? Arial, Trebuchet or Tahoma? Fixed width or not? More or less colorful?…. And so on…
Today I have prepared another symbols set before we start with How to draw swirls illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, Part Two. This set has been taken out from the classic brush stroke and classical ink on paper. It was then scanned and edited in Adobe Illustrator.
This set can be downloaded like the classic artist brush set for Adobe Illustrator and/or classic artist brush symbols set for Adobe Illustrator.

I received several inquiries on how to draw a swirls illustration. Swirls illustration does not require extensive knowledge, only a little practice and a visit of a “Muse”.
One of the problems that beginners face when entering the world of adobe illustrator is proper positioning of the vector control points.
For starters, my advice is to make a circle (use Elipse tool+Shift combination). Select the circle using “Direct SelectionTool”, four basic points and vector controllers (red extension lines).
Draw using “Pencil tool” and practice making various swirls. This is just for practice, we are not making any swirls there, but it is important to play with handles here and try to create some shape for the practice purposes.
Play with “Pencil Tool Preferences”, see how they affect the drawing.
Now, take it to the next step and make a simple “swirl” shape. Something like this:
Then make it’s inner (or outer) outline following the existing line. Connect outer and inner line in order to get closed shape: select two starting points and to Object -> Path -> Join. Do the same with two ending points. Reduce or add points using “Pen Tool” in order to fine tune the swirl shape.
Color the swirl and store it as a Brush or a Symbol. Make a small database of various shapes that will later be used for drawing Swirls Illustrations, like mine “Adobe Illustrator Swirls Symbols” – Subscribe to my newslwtter and download them for free
