Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (Part Two)

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (Part Two)

OK. As I promised in my previous post, today I will show you how to display your work on Zazzle and give yourself a chance to sell some of your work done with my Photoshop brushes.

So, dimensions of our Christmas Party Invitation were 5.25” x 5.25” which is 2550 x 2550 pixels. It is important to start the document in proper dimensions. If we don’t do that – later on the things might get complicated.

Here are some explanations that you know before starting your own designs (explanation from Zazzle):

“Bleed” is a printing term used to indicate the area that will be trimmed off after the job is printed and cut down to the finished size. This ensures that the design is printed to the full edge of the product. Our paper products contain a Safe Area and a Bleed Area. Always make sure any important parts of your design fall inside the Safe Area, and that your design background fully extends through the Bleed Area. Whatever is in the Bleed Area will get trimmed off, leaving your design printed all the way up to the Product Edge.

Zazzle supports images in JPEG, PNG, PDF, and Adobe Illustrator (AI) formats – so, if you are working with transparent images PNG, PDF i AI formats will be the formats of your choice.

So, let’s roll the sleeves and start having fun! :)

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (1)

Once you start a new project on Zazzle you will be offered several templates to start with.

A well done wizard will guide you through the creating process:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (2)

Pick the invitation size:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (3)

And add images. Basically, images are front and back size of our invitation in .jpg format.

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (4)

So, let’s select “My computer” option …

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (5)

And upload our invitation.

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (6)

Not much to do from this point on. Here is the preview of the front side:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (Part Two)

Now, let’s pick the back side:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (7)

And add the back side of our invitation:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (8)

Voila!

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (9)

Now it is only a matter of posting our invitation in our store and making it available for purchase:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (10)

Of course, we will need to add some details to to, like entering a Title, Subtitle and the Description of our product:

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (11)

That’s it! We’re done! Time for a cup of tea … or coffee!

Or, even better – make another product! Make a mug, or T-Shirt, or baseball hat, badge …. etc … etc …

It was pretty simple and fast – you will agree! I hope you like the idea and I hope you see, once again, on this example, how Photoshop brushes can be of a great help when it comes to speeding things up or bridging the creativity gaps we all run into from time to time.

OK. That’s it for today. Have a great weekend and have fun creating!

Hugs,

Silvia

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (Part One)

Creating Christmas Party Invitation /w Christmas Photoshop brushes (Part One)

Create unique Christmas Party Invitations for your friends and family or start a new job and earn some extra money. Here goes another short tutorial where I’m trying to prove, one more time, how easy, fast and fun it can be to use Photoshop brushes.

I this little tutorial I will show you how to use your passion and love for visual arts, turn your creative juices into something new and surprise your friends and/or family. In part two of this tutorial I will show you how to upload your Christmas Party Invitation to Zazzle and try to make some extra $$ with it!

And it will be fun!

So, for starters, let’s what we’ll need. Uhmmm … first we will need some nice, fancy-schmancy holiday font. You might have some already, but I always like to explore new stuff and I just ain’t gonna miss the opportunity to visit my favorite fonts places: www.dafont.com.

For this little occasion of ours -  I picked this Santa’s Sleigh typography.

Christmas Party Invitation

After downloading and installing the font (I hope you know how to do that, if not here is the hint: put them into Fonts folder :), we are going to open our good old Photoshop and create 5,25″x5,25″ document at 300 dpi. These dimensions (especially the dpi) are required by zazzle.com, so we’ll stick to it.

Christmas Party Invitation 2

In this case I will load my favorite Christmas Photoshop Brushes set (55 brushes) (available in my shop for only $9,99), or you can use FREE LITE version (7 brushes) from GBG download area.If you are a GBG member you already have the download link and if you’re not – now here is a great opportunity! Become a GBG member and get access to 80+ Photoshop brushes sets including the FREE LITE Christmas Photoshop brushes set and FREE LITE Snowflakes Photoshop brushes set!

Lite and Premium Christmas Photoshop brushes

Press F5 to display Photoshop brushes window, load them and press B to activate Brush tool.

Christmas Party Invitation 3

Because our Christmas Party Invitation has front and back side, we are going to organize our work in two Layer Groups, first Layer Group will be used for the front side of the invitation and the second Layer Group (which we will create on a later stage) will be used for the back side.

Creating Christmas Party Invitations

Now, let’s use some brushes! Press B to activate Brush tool, set foreground color to some light gray and simply add the brushes to our canvas.

Christmas Party Invitation 5

Now, let’s add some snow!

add new layerLet’s add a new Layer (we are going to need it later) pick the snowflake brush and bit lighter gray color. Play with the brush settings as demonstrated below: adjust Shape Dynamics, Scattering for dispersion and Other Dynamics for the various tones of gray color and Spacing to adjust space between the snowflakes.

Creating Christmas Party Invitations

Now, just a few strokes with our brush on the canvas and voila! It’s snowing!

Now add desired text using Santa’s Sleigh font (downloaded from www.dafont.com).

Christmas Party Invitation 7

And the front side of our invitation is over!

Now, let’s do some work on the back of the invitation. Create a new Layer Group and duplicate the layer with the snowflakes only.

Christmas Party Invitation 8

On the back of the invitation type RSVP and make a dashed line with the Text tool (T). Spacing between the characters should be set at 100 (or more).

Christmas Party Invitation 9

We are done :) Now print this card on your printer or use your local printing company or create account on zazzle.com.

That was simple, easy and fast, wasn’t it!

In the next tutorial I will show you how to make this invitation available for sale.

Whatever you do, do not forget: Have Fun Creating!

Photoshop Brushes on Clocks

Photoshop Brushes on Clocks

Guys,
I get so happy and excited when I learn about new start-up business that came out as a result of love and passion for graphic design or scrapbooking or any other form of visual arts!

My pleasure is even bigger when I know that my Photoshop brushes had a role in such project and I can’t even tell you how thrilled I am to I learn that it is a woman entrepreneur who stands behind the new business start-up.

And this is exactly what this post is about.

Ladies and gentleman, I proudly present you Ms. Angie Sheffer and her For All Time Clocks web store!

On http://www.foralltimeclocks.com Angie sells hand made clocks and here is what she says about her business and the idea behind it:

“My love for handmade, personalized clocks originally came about as a result of my love for graphic design and scrapbooking.   As I began to look for clocks that fit my style, I found that I was having a difficult time finding something that really matched what I was looking for.  I also knew that I had been blessed with a talent in graphic design and that I had to find a way to use my design skills in a unique and creative way.”

And here is some of her work:

Photoshop brushes on CloclI am proud to say that Angie uses my Photoshop brushes on many of her clocks and that is why I always happily emphasize that my Photoshop brushes are coming with Commercial license! Good work Angie!

Photoshop brushes on CloclsAnother great sample of using Photoshop brushes in clock design!

As I always say, only sky is the limit when it comes to the application of Photoshop brushes. My older visitors will know that they’ve been used for:

Software review: Batch Photo PRO

October 24, 2009 |  by  |  Announcements  |  No Comments

Guys,

You know what’s the good thing about having a blog with so many daily visitors (approx. 3000 in my case)? Although this blog is mainly about photoshop brushes, every now and then you get approached by various companies and they ask you to make a software review for them, in exchange you get a free copy of the software.

I know, you didn’t notice much software reviews on my site. That’s because I don’t want to review software that will not be interesting to my visitors. I mean most of you are here because you are, one way or another, into visual arts. Being it graphic design, web design, scrap booking or photography.

So, you guessed, I received an email the other day (ok, of Friday to be more precise) where a group of young Romanian developers asked me to make a honest review of their software called Batch Photo which they present as “The fastest photo editor”.

“OK” I said “Tell me one thing. Will I be able to select, like, hundreds of RAW files from my photo camera and transform them to my hard disk re-sized and in .jpg format?” I asked that because that’s just what I need to when I shoot some social event and I need to distribute small .jpg’s fast.

And they said “Yes. Here is your copy. Try it. And speak freely about your impressions”

“OK. I’ll do just that”

And here we go …

You know, I value the quality of the software by my ability to work with it without reading the manual. I don’t know about you, but I am not very patient when it comes to gaining knowledge about new software that I am about to use. This peace of software was not different. I wanted to do my stuff without reading any manuals, or FAQ’s or watching videos. It had to be intuitive and easy to use.

Installation was quite simple and straight forward (standard clicking on “Yes”, “Yes”, “Next”, “Next” and stuff …) and it was installed and up and running in no time.
Then I inserted the CF card from my Canon 20D in to the card reader and started the software.

batchphotopro1

Clicked on Add Photos.
Selected all 135 photos in CR2 format (which is RAW format of my beloved Canon 20D) and pressed NEXT.

batchphotopro2
At this stage I had to “Add filter” and select “Resize Advanced”, now that gave me the option to make all of the photos 800 x 525, then I pressed Next again. Select the format, and the quality …

batchphotopro3

batchphotopro4

Then I select thed the output folder, file format and the quality …

batchphotopro6

And clicked on “Process” …

It detected my 4 Cores CPU and I apperciated the fact that it reported a launch 4 threads. That should speed up the things.

And, voila! After 5minutes and 42 seconds 135 RAW images (CR2 Canon raw format) of 3596px x 2360px were converted into 800px x 525px in jpg format.

Nice, smooth and easy. There was a whole bunch of other effects or adjustments I could have done, here are some of them

batchphotopro7

Of course, for all details and free trial you are welcome to visit http://www.batchphoto.com/ and give this software a try.

I’d say it’s a perfect choice for situations like “OMG, I just came from this kids birthday party with, like 200 images in RAW format and now I need to get them real small in jpg and they need to be sharpened out and satrutation needs to be a bit increased and it just has to be done in no time.” If it sounds familiar then this Image Converter Software is for you.

OK. I hope this post was useful for you. If not still stay tuned as I will come up with some new free downloads from my little graphical factory. Until then, stay well and have fun creating!

Love!

Silvia
